Ireland Reads

Dear ELC/SAC Service Providers,

Following a hugely successful introduction in 2021, Ireland Reads is back for February 2022!

Irish libraries, Children’s Books Ireland, NALA, booksellers, publishers and others are partnering once again to get the whole country reading this month in the lead up to Ireland Reads Day on Friday, 25th of February.

The aim is to get everyone to pledge to ‘squeeze in a read’ on the 25th of February, Ireland Reads Day – whether that’s reading a book, a newspaper, a comic – whatever works.

We would love if all ELC’s/SAC’s would get involved and pledge to read – this can be the children reading themselves or the staff reading to the children.

Please visit www.irelandreads.ie, where you can take the pledge to read.

We would also love if you could send us some book reviews and photographs of your children and/or staff reading to library@longfordcoco.ie .  These will be used to promote the campaign on both our website and social media pages. By sending us book reviews and photographs you are consenting to them appearing on our social media pages and on our website www.longfordlibrary.ie .

All over the country, libraries, bookshops and partners will be holding events and activities online in support of Ireland Reads. Check the Ireland Reads website or www.longfordlibrary.ieIf you are sharing details of any events to mark Ireland Reads on your social media pages please tag County Longford Library Services Facebook page.

Don’t forget, library members can borrow from 12 million items or download from thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers online. Simply visit www.librariesireland.ie to join or to find out how to use our online services including Borrowbox, Libby and PressReader. You can of course also support your local bookshop!

It is free to join your local library and we also provide block loans and can organise library tours if you are interested.

Please help to get Ireland Reading!

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Fiona Cooney at 043 3340727.

Many thanks and kind regards,
