Aistear: the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework for babies, toddlers and young children has been updated. The updated Framework has been developed to support early learning and development from birth up until the child starts primary school.

Aistear celebrates early childhood as a time of being, a time for enjoying and learning from experiences as they unfold and laying important foundations for later learning and for life. The updated Framework incorporates new understandings of the rights of babies, toddlers and young children, sustainability and a deeper awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Aistear is supported by the Guidance for Good Practice. The Guidance builds on the original Guidelines for Good Practice (NCCA, 2009) and supports educators to understand and engage with new concepts introduced in the updated Framework.

Information on Aistear can be found at www.ncca.ie

The updated and newly designed Aistear Síolta Practice Guide is now live and available on Nurturing Skills website.

This online resource helps educators to use the two early childhood frameworks, Síolta and Aistear together to develop, reflect on and enhance the quality of their practice with babies, toddlers and young children. It offers practical suggestions, ideas and examples to guide educators in using the frameworks to inform and enrich children’s learning and development.

Please note that the Aistear Síolta Practice Guide is now only accessible through the Nurturing Skills website. The previous link is no longer in use. To access the Practice Guide, please visit nurturingskills.ie,, go to the Resources tab and click on The Aistear Síolta Practice Guide.
