Eimear Carron, Manager, Longford County Childcare Committee, welcomes the announcement this week by Katherine Zappone, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, of an Early Years Capital funding Programme 2017 totalling €4 million.
€3 million is being made available for grants open to both community/not for profit and private childcare services. This funding will provide grant aid, to expand capacity of childcare place available.
Funding of €500,000 is available for significant upgrades of community/not for profit childcare services, such as essential maintenance or works undertaken to improve the energy performance of childcare facilities.
The remaining €500,000 in capital funding is being made available for both private and community childcare facilities to access grants of up to €5,000 for the creation of natural outdoor play spaces.
Ms. Carron stated: ‘the Minister has stated that she is investing in our childcare infrastructure. We know that all children benefit from access to quality early years provision therefore investment in Early Years services will ensure maximum impact in supporting childcare providers, parents and children within Co. Longford’.
