Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)
– the ECCE programme is a universal programme available to all children within the eligible age range. It provides children with their first formal experience of early learning prior to commencing primary school. The programme is divided for 3 hours a day, five days a week, over 38 weeks per year and the programme year runs from September to June. There are 3 entry points throughout the programme year, September, January and April. The programme is eligible to all children from the age of three. The 3 points allow children to begin free pre-school as soon as possible after they have turned three years of age.
